We only have one earth. Today, it is in danger. Every gesture counts, so now’s the time to unite all our small gestures in one big movement.

To celebrate Earth Day on 22 April, Woluwe Shopping wants to work with you to create a huge momentum that you can help to breathe new life into the earth.

From 2 to 20 April, as part of the ALL FOR GREEN campaign, which brings together some thirty shopping centres in Belgium and Luxembourg to work towards sustainability, Woluwe Shopping is launching its own COLLECT & WIN campaign, a major collection of clothes that will be recycled by LES PETITS RIENS.

MORE TONNES OF CLOTHES, MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE EARTH AND ITS INHABITANTS

Each and every one of us has already got into the habit of sorting and recycling our clothes. But this time, we want to get involved with you in a large-scale solidarity initiative!

For COLLECT & WIN, we’ve set up a giant “Collectine” (container) in the heart of Woluwe Shopping , which has every intention of breaking records! The “Collectine” will collect dozens and hundreds of kilos of your clothes, which will then be sorted and put back on the market as part of a circular economy based on solidarity and the protection of our planet.

THE STAKES ARE ENORMOUS

Every year, more than 8,000 tons of donated textiles, at private level, furniture and objects are collected.

Did you know that 40% to 60% of the donations collected by LES PETITS RIENS are sold in shops, bringing in an average of €12 per kg?

In the social economy model of Les PETITS RIENS, these amounts are representative:

– 6 € finances a pack of nappies for a mother accompanied by LES PETITS RIENS

– 12 will fund a pillow for a homeless person in one of their reception centres

– 21 will fund a complete hygiene kit for a homeless person

– 51 will fund a week’s meal for a homeless person

 

As part of COLLECT & WIN, we’re also aiming to achieve targets to save the planet from tons of polluting waste.

Did you know that it takes 6,500 litres of water to produce a pair of jeans and 3,500 litres to produce a T-shirt?

We’ve calculated that if a 1kg bag of clothes consists of 1 pair of jeans + 1 T-shirt + 1 jumper + 1 jacket, these recycled clothes put back into the cycle represent 18,000 litres of water saved, or 450 40-litre showers.

That’s why we’re challenging you to bring in as many bags and kilos as you can to collect gigantic quantities!

How to enter the COLLECT & WIN competition

• Bring your clothes to the info desk, weigh them according to the instructions and put them in the giant Collectine
• Estimate the number of people who will have deposited clothes in the Collectine, between Tuesday 2 April at 10am and Saturday 20/4 at 7pm
• The 3 closest estimates will win a weekend at Les Cabanes de Rensiwez
