Our history

A pioneering shopping center in Belgium, Woluwe Shopping Center has not aged a day in fifty years. On the contrary, it has taken advantage of changes in consumer society and urban development.

Woluwe Shopping was one of the very first shopping centers built in Belgium on an American model. Inaugurated in 1968, it has undergone a remarkable evolution, with a first extension in 1975, a second extension in 1989, a first in-depth renovation in 2003 and a second interior renovation in 2019.

The inauguration took place on September 4, 1968. At the time, The Shopping covered an area of 30,000 m², with 74 shops and services. Such was the enthusiasm and curiosity that, after just 4 months, two million visitors had already shopped there. And the success continues to grow.

This success led to the construction of the first extension in 1975 and the opening of 25 new stores. Customers were looking for the best value for money and new entertainment. The mall now plays the role once played by the village square. It’s a lively center, a meeting place. Woluwe Shopping offers a perfectly balanced mix of shops for a clientele with above-average purchasing power.

The arrival of the metro in 1982 gave a fresh dynamic to Shopping. This was followed by a second extension in 1989. A vast two-floor rotunda was added to the central building, along with a new five-level parking lot. In addition, a genuine food center was created on the first floor.

Woluwe Shopping now boasts almost 47,000 m² of retail space, with some 130 retailers and an average weekly footfall of 125,000 visitors.

In 2003, WSC undertook a major renovation to conform to new safety and environmental standards

In 2017, WSC is acquired by Eurocommercial Properties, a commercial real estate investor and manager with a 4 billion euro portfolio of shopping centers in Belgium, France, Italy and Sweden.

In 2018, Woluwe Shopping Center celebrates its 50th anniversary, and remains a benchmark center for strolling, making appointments and gleaning the latest trends. The retail mix is constantly reviewed and improved to offer high-standard shops that match the customer base.

In 2019, Eurocommercial is undertaking an interior facelift to bring shopping back up to date. A new branding, a new logo, new furniture, a new customer path, a foodcourt, etc. to give shopping a new lease of life and fit in with its new philosophy: Woluwe Shopping, MY WAY TO LIVE.

Since 2018, Eurocommercial Properties has been investing every year in the energy and environmental renovation of Woluwe Shopping through the three pillars of its Be Green, Be Responsible, Be Engaged.
